The People's National Party (PNP) is one of Jamaica’s most influential political movements, grounded in the principles of democracy, social justice, equality, and people-centered development. Founded in 1938 by Norman Manley, the party has played a defining role in shaping modern Jamaica. Its leadership legacy includes Michael Manley, whose transformative social reforms reshaped the nation, and P. J. Patterson, who guided Jamaica through a period of stability, growth, and institutional strengthening.
The PNP is also proud to have produced Portia Simpson-Miller, Jamaica’s only female Prime Minister, whose leadership marked a historic milestone for women and political representation. She was succeeded as party president by Peter Phillips, who continued the party’s focus on economic reform and social equity. Today, the PNP is led by Mark Golding, who carries forward the party’s long-standing commitment to inclusive growth, strong democratic institutions, and national development that puts people first.
